April 21 — God Expressed Within and Faith Resting in Him

(The Life Manifested and the Heart Established)

April 21 brings the believer into a decisive shift: God is not to be sought as an outward display, but known in inward expression—and that life is entered by a settled trust in Christ.

1. God Manifested in the Life (Chambers)

Chambers writes:

“We look for God to exhibit Himself to His children, but God only exhibits Himself in His children.” (My Utmost for His Highest)

Chambers corrects expectation.

The tendency is to look outward—to seek visible demonstration, external confirmation, or unmistakable displays that assure us of God’s presence.

But God’s way is different.

He is not primarily exhibited to the believer, but in the believer.

The life he gives is the place where he is made known. What is revealed is not separate from the life in which it is expressed.

This shifts the focus entirely.

The question is no longer, “Where is God being shown to me?” but, “Is his life being expressed through me?”

For the manifestation of God is not external spectacle, but inward life brought into expression.

2. Faith Resting in the Living Lord (Spurgeon)

Spurgeon writes:

“Rest not content until by faith you can say, ‘Yes, I cast myself upon my living Lord, and He is mine.’” (Morning and Evening)

Spurgeon brings the focus to the ground of that life.

There must be a settled placing of the life upon Christ. Not partial, not uncertain, but complete—an entrusting that rests in him as the living Lord.

This is not a passing moment.

It becomes the place where the life stands.

To “cast” oneself upon him is to cease from self-originated standing—to no longer hold oneself, but to remain held.

And from that place, there is assurance: “He is mine.”

Not as possession claimed, but as relationship entered and rested in.

3. Where the Two Meet: Life Expressed from a Life Rested In

These truths meet in a single reality.

God is expressed in the believer—but that expression does not arise from effort or intention. It flows from a life that has come to rest fully in Christ.

Where the life is still self-held, expression is hindered. Where the life is cast upon him, expression becomes natural.

So the inward resting and the outward manifestation belong together.

The life is placed in him. And from that place, his life is seen.

Not something added, but something revealed.

4. Pastoral Orientation

April 21 calls for inward settlement and outward simplicity.

Do not look for God as something outside of you. Let his life be expressed within you.

Do not remain partially held by yourself. Cast your life fully upon Christ.

As you continue walking “after the spirit,” you will find that as the life rests more fully in him, the expression of that life becomes more evident.

Be settled in him. Let his life be seen.

And you will discover a life that does not seek display, but quietly manifests
the One from whom it lives.
