(The Place of Vision and the Ground of Authority)
April 22 brings the believer into a single movement: life formed in continual relation to God, and expression that flows from what Christ has already established.
1. A Life Turned Toward God (Chambers)
Chambers writes:
“A Christian servant is one who perpetually looks into the face of God and then goes forth to talk to others.” (My Utmost for His Highest)
Chambers defines the life by its direction.
The emphasis is not on what is done, but where the life is held. To “look into the face of God” is to remain in continual relation—attentive, responsive, and receiving.
This is not occasional.
It is perpetual.
The life is not sustained by moving outward first, but by remaining turned toward the Father. What follows does not originate in the self, but flows from that relation.
There is no divided movement—first God, then others.
There is one movement: life received, life expressed.
2. The Throne Established in Christ (Spurgeon)
Spurgeon writes:
“Jesus, our Lord, once crucified, dead, and buried, now sits upon the throne of glory. The highest place that heaven affords is His by undisputed right.” (Morning and Evening)
Spurgeon directs attention to what has been established.
The one who was crucified now occupies the highest place. What he endured has issued in authority that cannot be challenged or removed.
This is not future—it is present.
The throne is not being secured; it is already his.
And from that place, all things are held under his rule.
The life of the believer does not move toward that authority, but proceeds from it—because it is joined to him who sits there.
3. Where the Two Meet: Relation Formed in God, Expression from What Is Established
These truths meet in a single clarity.
The life that remains turned toward God is the life that moves from what Christ has already secured. There is no need to establish, prove, or sustain anything from the self.
The place has been set. The life is received.
To look into the face of God is to remain aligned with the source. To move from Christ’s throne is to live from what has already been accomplished.
So the life does not begin outwardly, nor does it strive upwardly.
It remains inwardly aligned and moves from a place already given.
4. Pastoral Orientation
April 22 calls for steadiness and clarity.
Do not begin with what you will say or do. Remain turned toward God.
Do not act as though the ground must be secured. Live from what Christ has already established.
As you continue walking “after the spirit,” you will find that when the life remains in relation to the Father, what is expressed carries the weight of what has already been accomplished in the Son.
Stay before him. Move from what is finished.
And you will discover a life that does not originate in self, but flows from the One who reigns in glory.
