July 6 — A Vision That Will Not Let You Settle and Love That Shines Through Trial

(The Higher Calling of God and the Enduring Manifestation of Divine Love)

July 6th reminds the believer that once God has revealed his purpose, the life can never again be satisfied with lesser pursuits. The Father’s vision continually draws the believer upward into deeper communion. And as that communion matures, divine love becomes most visible—not when life is easy, but when it continues to shine in the midst of trial.

A Heavenly Vision Will Not Let You Remain Where You Are

Chambers writes:

“If you have ever had a vision from God, you may try as you will to be satisfied on a lower level, but God will never allow it.” (My Utmost for His Highest)

Chambers speaks of the transforming power of divine revelation.

When the Father opens the eyes of the heart to his purpose, the believer is forever changed.

He may attempt to return to lesser ambitions.

He may seek comfort in old patterns.

He may try to live with divided affections.

But something within refuses to be satisfied.

The reason is simple.

The Father has awakened the spirit of sonship to something greater.

Once the believer has seen the beauty of communion with God and the purpose of manifesting the life of the Son, the attractions of self-directed living gradually lose their power.

This dissatisfaction is not punishment.

It is grace.

The Father lovingly refuses to let his children settle for less than the life to which he has called them.

The heavenly vision continually calls the believer beyond comfort, beyond self-interest, and beyond mere religious routine into deeper participation in the life of Christ.

Love Is Seen Most Clearly in Trial

Spurgeon writes:

“Love is rendered conspicuous when it shines in the midst of judgments.” (Morning and Evening)

Spurgeon reminds us that divine love is not proved only in favorable circumstances.

Anyone can speak of love when life is easy.

The love that reflects the life of the Son is revealed when difficulties arise.

Throughout Scripture, the Father’s love remains constant even in seasons of discipline, correction, or trial.

Likewise, the believer’s love becomes most evident when it continues to trust, obey, forgive, and serve while passing through hardship.

This was perfectly demonstrated in Jesus.

Neither rejection nor suffering diminished his love for the Father or for those whom the Father had given him.

His love remained steadfast because its source remained unchanged.

The believer is called into that same pattern.

The spirit of sonship does not love merely when circumstances are pleasant.

It continues to love because its source is the Father’s own life.

Where the Two Meet: The Vision Sustains the Love

These truths belong together beautifully.

Chambers shows us the heavenly vision that continually draws the believer forward.

Spurgeon shows us the character that vision produces.

The life that has truly seen God’s purpose does not merely persevere.

It increasingly manifests divine love.

Why?

Because the vision is centered upon the Son.

The more clearly we behold Christ, the more deeply we participate in his mind.

And the more his life is manifested, the more steadfast our love becomes.

One truth concerns direction.

The other concerns manifestation.

Together they reveal that God’s vision is never merely for personal inspiration.

It is given so that the life of the Son may be increasingly expressed through those who remain faithful to the Father’s calling.

Pastoral Orientation

July 6th calls for perseverance and steadfast love.

Do not become discouraged if you can no longer find satisfaction in lesser pursuits.

The Father’s vision is drawing you into deeper communion with him.

Do not measure love only by favorable circumstances.

Allow the life of the Son to be manifested most clearly when the path becomes difficult.

As you continue walking “after the spirit,” you will find that the heavenly vision keeps your heart moving toward the Father’s purpose, while every trial becomes another opportunity for the love of Christ to be revealed through the spirit of sonship.

Remain faithful to the vision.

Let love continue to shine.

And you will discover a life that refuses to settle for anything less than the Father’s purpose, while increasingly manifesting
the steadfast love of the Son, whose communion with the Father remains the source of every faithful response.
